[ WHY WE DO IT ]

Mission:

Walls for Justice seeks to empower, and enhance the platform of social movements, communities, people of color, and all other marginalized groups; through the use of murals, beautification projects, demonstrations, and other artistic mediums.

Brief History:

It’s the summer of 2020, the killings of people of color – Breonna Taylor and George Floyd and others – sparked civil unrest and nationwide protests. Fears of protesting during pandemic inspired Sam Rodriguez to protest with a paintbrush. Walls for Justice began painting unifying social justice messages on plywood boards that covered up the storefront windows, helping businesses for free. We could see the impact immediately. Passersby wanted to help paint. Stores asked for messages of support. Media shared our messages. Instead of anger and despair, our words, our art, became a symbol of hope.

But eventually, the plywood would come down, so what was next? Sam was inspired, and he knew that public art could bring together artists, community, and businesses to create change for the better of our world.
