Breaking Boundaries: The Mathey College Mural Project
In a historic collaboration, Mathey College at Princeton University has teamed up with Philadelphia-based non-profit Walls for Justice and Princeton’s Office of the Provost to create a landmark mural that embodies pride, togetherness, and positivity. This project, completed during community painting sessions in April and May of 2024, stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and cultural engagement that Mathey College fosters.
This mural is not only the first community mural at Princeton University but also marks a significant moment for Walls for Justice. It was an honor for the organization to work alongside Mathey College under the leadership of Stacey A. Sinclair, the first African-American woman to serve as the head of the college. Her leadership and the involvement of a dedicated community have imbued this artwork with deep significance, celebrating diversity and unity in every brushstroke.
Through this project, Mathey College and Walls for Justice have woven a vibrant tapestry of community and creativity, showcasing the power of art in fostering connections and understanding among students and faculty alike. This mural will serve as a lasting emblem of the college's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every voice can be heard and every story told.
