McIlvain Recreation Center Mural – Philadelphia

Walls for Justice partnered with Mural Arts Philadelphia to support the creation of a community mural at McIlvain Recreation Center. The project provided emerging artists with the opportunity to participate in a real-world public art experience through the Mural Arts Internship Program.

Working alongside the Mural Arts team, Walls for Justice helped guide interns through the mural-making process — from preparation and design development to on-site painting and installation. This hands-on experience allowed young artists to build professional skills while contributing to a meaningful public artwork in their community.

The mural, designed by lead artist Jamee Grigsby, reflects the creative voices and energy of the participating interns while enhancing the recreation center as a vibrant and welcoming community space.

This partnership demonstrates Walls for Justice’s ongoing commitment to supporting emerging artists by providing real opportunities to gain experience, develop their craft, and contribute to Philadelphia’s public art landscape.
