MLK DAY 2023

Philadelphia, PA, USA

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of service and remembrance, and Walls For Justice was proud to participate in this year's MLK Day of Service at Cooke Elementary School.

We brought together 50 volunteers to work alongside 5 local artists to create 5 large paintings on lockers that would brighten up the school and inspire the students. The volunteers were a mix of people from all backgrounds, including students, parents, and community members. More than half of our volunteers came from our friend’s at the WashU Alumni Network.

The paintings were created with the theme of "Literacy, Unity, “and school pride in mind, and featured colorful imagery and symbols that represent the diversity of the students and the community, and the importance of coming together and working towards a common goal.

The day was filled with energy and excitement as the volunteers worked together to create something beautiful. The students and staff of Cooke Elementary were thrilled with the results and couldn't wait to see the new paintings.

We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this important day of service and to make a positive impact on the community. The paintings serve as a reminder of the importance of diversity and unity and will continue to inspire and uplift the students for years to come.

We would like to thank the Goldenberg group, WashU, and Cooke Elementary school for hosting us and making this event possible. WE would like to also thank the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, and the local artists for their talents and contributions. Together, we made a difference in the community and honored the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
